O.C. Came In 3rd Worst In Nation In Housing Affordability

In the third quarter Orange County had the 3rd worst housing affordability in the nation. The Housing chartOpportunity Index showed that 37.6% of all new and existing Orange County homes sold in the third quarter of this year were only affordable to families who earned a median income of $86,100.

After three positive years of home affordability this was the second consecutive drop. The main reason that local home affordability has begun to fall is due to the rising home prices. Home prices were up 5% in the quarter and are up 3% from last year. Unfortunately local incomes have not changed in six months making it harder for local home buyers to afford to buy.

The only two cities with home affordability worse than us are New York and San Francisco. For the 17th consecutive quarter Indianapolis is the most affordable place to buy a home.
