O.C. Builders Record First Gain In Home Sale Contracts

Orange County builders recorded their first up month of new home sale contracts in October, which followed home13 straight months of annual sales declines.

The signing of a contract only marks the beginning of escrow. Not all home will close escrow the figures do provide an estimate of future closed sales.

In October homebuyers signed 90 contracts to buy a new Orange County home, a 13.9% increase from October 2008. There was an 18.2% increase in single-family home contracts – 39 were signed in October. Contracts for townhomes were double the number they were in 2008.

The only home type to post a decrease was condos which fell 35.5% to just 20 new escrows.

For the year as a whole, however, new home contracts remain 27.7% below last year’s figures. Just 1,319 contracts were signed in 2009 so far, compared to 1,824 in the first 10 months of 2008.
